Reading Libraries have access to many sources of information using electronic means.
We provide Internet access at all of our libraries. We have several PCs available
for word processing and other Microsoft Office packages.
Our Community Information database is now available. It includes listings for local clubs, societies, halls for hire and churches.
Our Library catalogue is available to search within each of
the libraries and is also available on the Internet (click on
the Catalogue & Renewal button).
Internet access
As part of the Peoples Network you can access the Internet for free at Reading Libraries.
You must have your library ticket with you to access this Internet service.
If you do not have a library ticket and want to use the Internet, joining is easy. You do
not need to live in Reading. Just bring in with you two proofs of ID - one proof of your home
address and one with your signature.

Children and teenagers under the age of 14 will need written parental permission to use
the internet before they are able to access it through the library.
These free terminals offer a limited service, allowing you to view websites, email using
web-based email services, and print (for which there is a small charge). Use of the Internet
is limited to a maximum of 2 hours per day if booked in
advance or 1 hour sessions for quick, instant access.
Word Processing
The first floor of the Central Library has three PC's set aside for use of Microsoft
Office 2000 applications. They all have Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access,
Powerpoint and Publisher. They also have a typing tutorial program. You can load Office files
from floppy discs and CD-ROMs (there is no CD writer) from all three PCs, and
all have a USB
port. These machines are not connected to the Internet nor can you load programs onto them.
There is no charge for using them except a small fee for printing. These machines are best
booked in advance: to do this please phone the Central Library on (0118) 901 5955.
