Enquiry Service

Enquiry Service at Reading Central Library

Your library is a place to gain access to knowledge and other cultural resources. The Central Library has a team of Librarians who are trained to find information - anything from an international telephone number to a recipe to make fuchsia jam, as well as more detailed local history and business information. We can advise you which books and websites to use, and who the key organisations are that can help to take your enquiry even further.

We'll help you find information of all kinds - for your work, your leisure, your learning and your family life. You can access the material yourself or ask a member of staff to guide you to information that can help.

All you have to do is ask.

How to use the service

You can contact us with your query by telephone, in writing, by visiting us, or via our online form. This can be found, along with the contact details by clicking on the Contact button.

Everyone is welcome to use the enquiry service - you do not have to be a library member.

How quickly can I expect an answer?

We will always try to answer your enquiry as soon as possible. If you are on the telephone or visiting us, we will always try to give you an answer immediately. If we are unable to do this we will let you know when we will contact you - this will be within 5 working days, usually less. If you have written to us, either via the online form or using the post, we will reply to you within 5 working days of us receiving the query. If we need more time than this to give you a complete answer, we will let you know.

Where will the information be from?

Library staff will use reputable sources of information, often looking in more than one place to check for an answer. We will quote the source where we found the information, but cannot be held liable for any errors or omissions, or be held responsible for the contents of external websites.

Please note that we are unable to undertake original research and we cannot answer hypothetical questions, give opinions or provide medical, legal or financial advice.
