About the Library

Whitley Library is a friendly community library located on the Buckland Road/ Northumberland Avenue roundabout. It opened in 1935.

  • Books – Fiction and non-fiction books for both adults and children
  • Spoken word cassettes for adults and children
  • DVDs
  • Large print books
  • ‘Back to Basics’ section with books to help adult learners with Maths and English
  • Books in other languages - Urdu
  • National and local newspapers
  • Selection of magazines including BBC Good Food, Amateur Gardening & Woman
  • Free Internet access - 3 public terminals available plus 1 for children
  • Access to the library catalogue
  • Photocopier
  • Fax
  • Study space
  • Sales – greetings cards & stamps
  • Parents and carers can join the Toy Library and reserve and collect toys at Whitley Library

  • Storytime : times can be found here
  • Over 60's Morning 10.30am - 12.00 on the last Tuesday of every month. Please see the Events page for details of this months meeting.
  • We have an annual Summer Reading Challenge run every year during school summer holidays
  • For other one-off events see the News section of the website

Access

By BUS:
Whitley Library can be visited using bus numbers 5, 14 & 15

There is a wheelchair ramp at the front entrance.
