  • For partially sighted people - more than 8,000 large print books and 2,500 spoken word books on cassette
  • Access to Reading Libraries request service
  • Information via the Internet
  • Friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff

These services are free.

Home Visiting Service

We make more than 8,000 visits to elderly and disabled readers in Reading every year.

You can apply

  • If you live in Reading Borough and you are elderly and/or disabled.
  • If you are housebound, or have a disability that makes it difficult for you to visit your local library.

The Big Mobile Library

This carries 2,200 books to residents of sheltered housing units, day centres and other similar establishments around Reading.

If you live in a home which we do not visit, let us know!

There is a low step for access and a ramp for wheelchair use. Customers can come to choose their books. We also visit customers' rooms if this is easier for them.

The Mini Mobile Library

This has a stock of just over 1,000 books and serves smaller establishments in the Borough, including sheltered housing units, day centres and other similar places inaccessible to our larger mobile library.

Wheelchair access is via a ramp. Customers can come to choose their books. We also visit customers' rooms if this is easier for them.
